ITV's Cleaning Up has proved to be pretty divisive with viewers since its debut earlier this month, with many finding it slow and pointing out major plot holes and unrealistic elements.

But the drama, which stars Sheridan Smith, may have redeemed itself tonight (January 23) with episode three, which ended on a major cliffhanger.

So far, single-mum Sam has been getting herself into some pretty hot water, playing with insider trading using information that she gathers during her job as a cleaner at a top financial firm.

And in episode three, it looked like the jig might be up, as the listening device planted by Sam and her pal Jess was discovered.

The cleaning staff were all hauled in to be told by the compliance manager that there had been a security breach in the firm which she was investigating.

But Sam didn't seem bothered by the news and was excited to hear that Jess had found Blake's burner phone on which he made all his dodgy investment calls.

Of course, the phone wasn't password-protected and Sam was able to get in and access all his contacts. She then made the bold move of calling Swanny, the man Blake had been working for, and setting up her own meeting with him

Putting on a fake posh accent and calling herself Nancy, Sam managed to bluff her way through the meeting and secure herself an introduction to the big boss.

But back at the office, the compliance manager was reviewing the CCTV and noticed Sam and Jess on there acting very suspiciously.

Meanwhile, Sam headed to her meeting at a fancy London restaurant where Swanny was there to introduce her to Graeme.

But the party was waiting for one more special guest and before Sam had time to sit down, in walked the office's compliance manager!

Viewers were shocked by the unexpected plot twist and it left them eagerly anticipating the next episode.

So what will happen to Sam now it turns out the compliance lady was in on it too? No doubt it involves a little blackmail and a lot of cash.

Cleaning Up continues next Wednesday (January 30) at 9pm on ITV.
