ITV Emmerdale Ross Barton's link to Rebecca White explained as he returns without her
Emmerdale viewers saw Ross Barton, played by Michael Parr, make an explosive return to the hit ITV soap on Monday night after six years.
In an unexpected twist during an unlicensed boxing match in the latest episode aired on 28 October, Ross was unveiled as Billy Fletcher's, played by Jay Kontzle, opponent. His reappearance in the village is set to rekindle old tensions and spark new rivalries.
However, soap watchers were left distracted during the scenes as they questioned where Rebecca White, played by Emily Head, was as Ross left the village with Rebecca back in 2018 to start a new life in Liverpool.
Viewers will recall that actor Michael first joined the popular ITV soap in 2013 and his character Ross was known for his turbulent relationships with characters like Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb). It wasn't long until he struck up a romance with Rebecca in 2017 but around that time, the latter also slept with Robert Sugden while Aaron Dingle was in prison.

In true soap style, Rebecca discovered she was pregnant and didn't know who was the biological father of her child before it was revealed that Robert was the dad. Despite their on-off romance, Ross and Rebecca rekindled their relationship in 2018 following Ross' horrific acid attack due to mistaken identity. Later in 2018, Ross left the village with Rebecca and her son Sebastian to start a new life in Liverpool.
However, with Ross now back in the village without Rebecca, soap watchers will be wondering what has happened to the latter character.
Talking about his return recently, Ross actor Michael recently said of what his character has been up to over the past six years: "All will be revealed the week after, you'll find out where he's been, who he's still in touch with, and what's been going on in his life. But I don't want to give anything away just yet."
He added of his return: "I’m over the moon to be returning to Emmerdale. Ross is a character I’m extremely fond of and I’m excited to explore what he’s been up to over the past five years. After seeing the scripts, I can’t wait for the audience to see what’s in store. One thing I can say is Ross’s return will no doubt create fireworks."
Emmerdale continues on weekdays at 7:30pm on both ITV and ITV X
