ITV Emmerdale's Adam Barton star unrecognisable in throwback clip as he teases return

Emmerdale's Adam Thomas admitted "he looks like a baby" in a throwback clip of the actor as Adam Barton in the ITV soap.

The actor, who featured on the soap for nine years, appeared on Monday's Lorraine to chat about his role on Waterloo Road, Strictly Come Dancing, and a possible return to Emmerdale.

Lorraine probed: "Emmerdale, of course, the door is never shut, the door is swinging."

"Is it?" Adam asked as the ITV host went on: "You're on Waterloo Road just now but if they came back and said, 'Look, amazing storyline' would you think about it?"

Adam laughed before replying: "Listen, never say never Lorraine. Never say never."

"I agree 100 percent," Lorraine responded as the actor explained further: "With Emmerdale it was a huge part of my life. I was there eight or nine years, it was a very long time."

As a clip from his days in the soap played out, Adam couldn't believe how unrecognisable he looked as said: "Look at me, I was a baby then, so cute."

He added: "It's the best job in the world to learn to act. It's so quick as well."

Adam's character arrived in Emmerdale in 2009 but left in 2018 after confessing to Emma Barton's (Gillian Kearney,) murder.

At the time, Adam told police that he'd murdered Emma in order to save his mum Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) from prison.

Emma died after jumping from a viaduct in 2017 - but it later transpired that Moira had pushed her.

Adam's exit storyline was a dramatic one as it saw Aaron (Danny Miller) and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) breaking him out of the prison van.

After escaping, he has been living life abroad, and in recent scenes, his name has been mentioned in the ITV soap, hinting at a potential comeback.

Adam's return could come to fruition as his on-screen half-brother Ross Barton (Michael Parr) will be making his comeback very soon.

When speaking about his return to the Dales, Michael said: "I’m over the moon to be returning to Emmerdale. Ross is a character I’m extremely fond of and I’m excited to explore what he’s been up to over the past five years.

"After seeing the scripts, I can’t wait for the audience to see what’s in store. One thing I can say is Ross’s return will no doubt create fireworks.”

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
