ITV Grace star quits hit show and issues emotional statement
Former BBC Line of Duty star Craig Parkinson has quit his role in ITV's Grace just as the new series is about to air. Craig is known for his portrayal of Detective Norman Potting in the ITV drama, but said the new episodes will be his last.
Craig, who played the villanous Matthew 'Dot' Cottan in Line of Duty, showed a softer side as Norman in the series which is based on the Roy Grace novels by Peter James. In a statement, he revealed it was now time to hand in Potting's police badge, reports the Express.
He said: "Some Grace news. After a very happy few years, I've made the decision to hand in Norman Potting's detective badge. The new season of Grace begins on ITV on September 1st but it will also be my last."

In his statement, Craig revealed how he brought the lovable cop to life. He said: "It's been a wonderful experience taking this character from page to screen and updating him for a new audience. There was a huge sense of responsibility in portraying such a character from Peter James' much-loved book series but with a few tweaks here and there from our excellent script team and the support from Peter, I'm really glad that he resonated with the audience."
Craig starred in the series alongside John Simm who plays the lead detective Roy Grace. Richie Campbell plays Grace's sidekick, Glenn Branson, while Zoe Tapper stars as pathologist Cleo who becomes entangled in a relationship with Roy.
In his statement, Craig thanked all the cast and the crew involved in the popular ITV series. He said: "Behind the camera, I've been fortunate to work with so many wonderful and talented guest directors who come in and ignite the set. The brilliant crew, what to say?
"It's been a wonderful journey playing Norman Potting, chasing around the streets of Brighton and dangling bad guys off Brighton Pier. I really hope you enjoy this season, it's been a blast."
News of Craig's exit has been met with much sadness online. One said: "Oh no I don't think I can cope with whatever this series has in store for dear Norman it's gonna be too much, I just know it is." A second said: "Loved watching you in this series. Love watching you in anything! Hope to see you in something else, soon. Won't be the same without you."
Despite the sadness at leaving, Craig said he had loved being on the show. He said: "Massive thanks to everyone that's watched, supported and also those that have said hello when we've been filming around Brighton and Hove. New Grace season for you, last one for me. Really hope you enjoy."
