Derbyshire's Love Island contestant was dramatically removed from the villa just a day after making their debut on the ITV2 series, despite calls for them to win the show. Sam Taylor, from Chesterfield, was abruptly dismissed from the programme in scenes that followed the surprise arrival of celebrity newcomer Joey Essex.

The new line-up, introduced by host Maya Jama on Monday (June 3), were left stunned as former TOWIE star Joey made his entrance. However, his arrival came at a price.

As Tuesday night's (June 4) episode concluded, he had to choose which girl he wanted to partner with. Joey decided to couple up with Samantha, leaving her previous partner Sam Taylor single.

But the shocks didn't end there. Sam realised that as a result of Joey stealing his girl, he had been immediately evicted from the villa, reports the Mirror. Tears filled the villa garden as the Islanders grasped that Sam had been sent home already, just one day into the villa experience.

This follows TOWIE and I'm A Celebrity star Joey surprising the Islanders, and viewers, by entering the villa at the end of the launch episode. ITV has confirmed that Joey will remain in the villa as a bombshell, not as a guest.

Host Maya welcomed him into the villa in the first episode, but the show ended before we saw what happened next. It was then confirmed at the start of the subsequent episode that Joey had a significant decision to make.

In a first for the show, a celebrity contestant - not a past Islander - entered the villa. Maya informed the cast: "He's not a passing visit, he's actually here."

She then told Joey: "Joey, in 24 hours you will have the opportunity to steal one of these beautiful girls." It was reported on Tuesday that someone would be leaving the show just hours into the series, with Joey's choice sending one person packing.

The repercussions of this decision were revealed later that evening when Joey was forced to announce his choice. Viewers had shared their thoughts on Sam winning the show just hours earlier on Monday, thinking he could take the crown in eight weeks time.

However, the decision to include Joey on the show divided fans, with some labelling it as "unfair". One fan posted: "It's just unfair," while another commented: "Him as a contestant is wildly unfair," and a third agreed: "Bringing a celebrity onto the island is madness wazzz goinnn on this is unfair surely."
