Just before filming his final scenes for the hit show Vera, series regular Riley Jones took to social media to share an emotional post.

Known for his role as Mark Edwards since the series began, Jones told fans, "Heading up to Newcastle to film my last few scenes for Vera and reading this article by @Graemethedean Weird that someone is chopping onions on the train."

Fans quickly expressed their sadness in response to Riley's message. One fan noted: "The very best TV show ever. I have watched every episode several times over. Vera calms me. She will be sorely missed! ".

Adding their sentiment, another fan wrote: "Love this. You're all so bl***y awesome!"

A third user lamented: "I'm so upset that we won't see Vera anymore. Only 2 more episodes of this fabulous show to go."

Another comment read: "It's going to be such a shame I never got to meet you Riley. My garden wall is still there if you need a project later on. Take care Ange from Blyth Xx", reports the Express.

Rhiannon Clements, who plays DC Stephanie Duncan, will join Riley for his final scenes. ITV has assured viewers that the actress would be returning to the series despite her busy schedule.

The upcoming series, set to air next year, will feature the last episodes for the cast and Brenda Blethyn, the acclaimed veteran actress leading the show.

The beloved Brenda shared her sentiments about leaving the show, expressing: "Working on Vera has been a joy from beginning to end and I'm sad to be saying Cheerio. But I am so proud of our achievements over the last fourteen years."

She went on to express gratitude: "I'll be forever grateful to the wonderful Ann Cleeves who created Vera, and to Elaine Collins who saw fit to cast me in the role."

Moreover, she had nothing but praise for her colleagues, stating: "The Producers, dream cast, and crew have been fabulous and I'm going to miss them, but I won't forget their huge talent, the camaraderie, laughter or kindness we shared nor the friendship of the people of the northeast and our fans worldwide."

Vera returns to ITV in 2025.
