ITV viewers issue complaint minutes into NTAs over 'painful' opening
Joel Dommett was once again the star of the show as he hosted this year's National Television Awards. The creme de la creme of the television industry gathered for the glitzy event, with a room full of hopeful celebrities all vying for the award they'd been nominated for.
However, it appeared that ITV viewers had a significant gripe just minutes after the show began. Viewers took to Twitter to comment on the opening number as Joel broke into song. One viewer remarked: "Most painful intro in some time! #NTAs." Another added: "That was horrendous Joel."
"The singing intro thing only really works when it's someone that can actually sing," commented another. "What the actual f**k is this? " queried one viewer, with another adding: "Oh how corny."
Joel's musical number featured many of the celebrities and their shows up for nomination, including Davina McCall, Bradley Walsh and Ant and Dec, reports the Express.

At one point, Strictly Come Dancing star Anton Du Beke joined Joel on stage for a jazz number. However, the ITV host couldn't resist poking fun at himself while singing, stating: "So much talent to celebrate, me? I've not been nominated! " After his whirlwind performance, it was time to reveal the winner for Factual Entertainment.
Despite some strong nominations, including Clarkson's Farm and Yorkshire Vet, it was Stacey Solomon's Sort Your Life Out that triumphed. The win clearly took her by surprise as she hugged her eldest son who was standing next to her. Once on stage, the TV presenter admitted that she had been practising her losing face, not expecting to win.
In her acceptance speech, she expressed gratitude to the families who welcomed her into their homes and hearts for the show as she accepted the award. During the course of the annual event, viewers will also witness celebrities receiving awards in categories such as Drama Performance, Serial Drama, Reality Competition and Comedy.
