Joel Dommett was once again the star of the show as he hosted this year's National Television Awards. The event saw the creme de la creme of the TV industry gather in anticipation of winning their respective awards.

However, ITV viewers quickly voiced a major complaint just minutes into the show. Many took to Twitter to comment on Joel's opening musical number. One viewer remarked: "Most painful intro in some time! #NTAs." Another added: "That was horrendous Joel."

"The singing intro thing only really works when it's someone that can actually sing," commented another viewer. "What the actual f**k is this? " questioned one perplexed viewer, with another chiming in: "Oh how corny."

Joel's musical performance featured many of the celebrities and shows nominated for awards, including Davina McCall, Bradley Walsh and Ant and Dec. At one point, Strictly Come Dancing's Anton Du Beke joined Joel on stage for a jazz number, reports the Express.

Despite the criticism, Joel managed to poke fun at himself during his performance, stating: "So much talent to celebrate, me? I've not been nominated!"

Following his energetic performance, the award for Factual Entertainment was announced. Despite stiff competition from nominees such as Clarkson's Farm and Yorkshire Vet, it was Stacey Solomon's Sort Your Life Out that took home the prize.

The win clearly took her by surprise as she hugged her eldest son who was sitting next to her. Once on stage, the TV presenter admitted that she had been practising her losing face, not expecting to win.

In her acceptance speech, she expressed gratitude to the families who welcomed her into their homes and hearts for the show as she accepted the award.

During the yearly event, viewers will also witness celebrities receiving awards in categories such as Drama Performance, Serial Drama, Reality Competition and Comedy.
