ITV The Voice judge Danny Jones says 'that hurts' after Liverpool contestant performs

A contestant from Liverpool appeared on ITV's The Voice hoping to impress the judges. Sir Tom Jones, LeAnn Rimes, will.i.am, and McFly's Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher were ready and waiting for tonight's singers.

In his introduction, the 18-year-old Paul Connor said: "I love being from Liverpool. It's a boss city with boss people. It's boss. I am a massive Liverpool fan. People say football is just a game, it really isn't. It's beautiful. It proper speaks to me. My biggest supporters are my mum and dad.

"There's a pub beside Anfield I get to play Liverpool songs before a game. Football is my first love, music is why I'm here. I've never done anything to this extent. This is the biggest moment of my life. This could be the next big step for me."

His mum, Debbie, said: "I literally haven't got words to say how proud I am of him. He's just absolutely flying at life at the moment. I'm in awe of him and how far he's come."

Paul stepped on stage with a guitar to sing Sam Fender's Spit of You. The judges pondered whether to turn their chairs with the McFly boys deep in thought.

The audience was in love with the teenager and erupted with applause once he finished. Viewers at home were equally impressed, including X (Twitter) Elle Louise who said: "He's got a good voice."

Sadly, Paul failed to turn any of the judge's chairs. Visibly pained by the decision, Danny was seen holding his heart as he said: "That hurts."

Backstage, Paul said: "I'm gutted, don't get me wrong but what can you do? I gave it my best. On to the next thing."
