Following the public revelation of every BBC star who the corporation pays more than £150,000 a year, there has been a lot of discussion about both the gender pay gap and the lack of BAME staff in the upper echelons of the pay bracket.

Eyes have now turned to ITV to see if they will reveal how much they pay their stars, especially following the reports about how Ant & Dec's income dwarfs all the BBC stars, and Piers Morgan's admission of his own salary.

ITV chairman Sir Peter Bazalgette is quoted by The Guardian as saying: "We take gender issues, employment and pay very seriously as a company.

"But we are a commercial broadcaster. The BBC is funded with public money. We would never discuss confidential contracts for anyone working at ITV."

Bazalgette is also quoted as saying that 52% of ITV's staff are female and 43% of its senior managers are women, and that the broadcaster will follow the government's new gender pay gap policy, which forces companies to disclose how much they pay their male and female staff, respectively.

"Next April as required we will publish gender pay gap numbers," he added. "That is something we monitor closely and we will be able to show a year-on-year improvement in those numbers.

"But in terms of specific contracts, confidential contracts, of talent behind and in front of the camera, that is not something we would ever reveal."
