ITV's Beat the Chasers viewers say they shouldn't have shown contestant's short run after first show of new series
Beat the Chasers returned to ITV on Thursday January 16 and viewers were not happy with the show's "harsh" format. The challenging gameshow, hosted by Bradley Walsh, has been on our screens since 2020. It welcomes contestants from across the UK to face head-to-head challenges with not only one Chaser, but all six of them.
Ray from Port Talbot was next up to face the chasers, Mark Labbett (The Beast), Anne Hegerty, (The Governess), Paul Sinha, (The Sinnerman), Jenny Ryan, (The Vixen), Shaun Wallace (The Dark Destroyer) and Darragh Ennis (The Menace). Ray followed Becki from Birmingham who had just lost £40,000 in her race against the powerful team.
Ray went into the game feeling positive and wanted to take some money home to be able to take his wife on holiday. The first round was the Cash Builder round, in which the contestant answers five multiple choice questions for the chance to bank up to £5,000. But, if they start with a wrong answer, they are out of the game.

Ray was faced with a tricky first question, and unfortunately he got the answer wrong. This meant his time on the ITV game show was cut short in what viewers saw as a "harsh" result.
After seeing Ray's unbelievably short stint on the show, viewers immediately took to social media to stick up for the disappointed contestant and complain about the "ridiculous" rule. One said: "Justice for Ray!"
While more viewers added: "Getting that as 1st Question seemed a bit harsh" and "That was an awful first question. I don't understand why they broadcast the people who get the first question wrong and can't play on. If that were me I definitely wouldn't want to be on TV!"
Viewers agreed that it was "ridiculous" and a "nasty". For Ray, the question was worded in a complicated way which seemed to confuse audiences too. Ray didn't say anything about the unfortunate outcome, but was forced to admit that his time on Beat the Chasers was already over.
