ITV's The Death of Aimee Spencer left viewers with a lot of questions
ITV's Crime and Punishment series premiered a new documentary special tonight (February 14) as Katie Piper looked into the investigation around model and Geordie Shore extra Aimee Spencer's death.
Aimee, known professionally as Carla Mai, was left hospitalised in July 2016 after she reportedly fell from a window in a Brighton flat, before she later passed away from her injuries a week later.
The Death of Aimee Spencer looks at the entire investigation from start to finish – beginning with the emergency call reporting the incident and ending with the conclusion of the case in January this year.

Using interviews with detectives trying to solve the case, as well as bodycam footage from officers who were at the scene and footage of the key developments, The Death of Aimee Spencer attempted to piece together the background to how she might have ended up dying in such tragic circumstances.
From the beginning of the investigation, officers were questioning how Aimee ended up falling from the two-storey window – including whether or not it was an accident – and with key witness Daniel found in a drug-induced state and unable to give a statement, the pressure was on the officers to gather as much evidence as possible.
But while the investigation continued, Aimee's family were left facing the devastating choice of whether to turn off their daughter's life support machine – and it was the emotional recollections of Aimee's family in the documentary that left viewers heartbroken:
How the hell do you agree to turn off your daughters life support machine?! 😢 #crimeandpunishment

Aimee's cause of death was ultimately attributed to a fall from a great height while under the influence of cocaine and ketamine.
Key witness Daniel Lewis later pleaded guilty to seven counts of possession with intent to supply in October 2018, receiving a two-year suspended sentence at the time, before a court of appeals ruled that Daniel's sentence was "unduly lenient", and sentenced him to three years in prison in January 2019.
And while many viewers watching The Death of Aimee Spencer acknowledged that her death was a tragedy, others couldn't help but feel that the documentary had left a few key things out, leaving them with a lot of questions:
One of those stories where we won’t ever know what really happened that night #CrimeAndPunishment #thedeathofaimeespencer 😭

The Aimee Spencer documentary has baffled me. I don’t understand what actually happened and I don’t understand why he didn’t go to prison for all those drugs ? Most people would get 7+ years for that amount of drugs ? #TheDeathOfAimeeSpencer

Extremely sad that Aimee died at such a young age under these circumstances but what have we learnt from this programme? An opportunity to get across key messages ie DONT TAKE DRUGS completely missed and played down all the way through in my opinion #TheDeathOfAimeeSpencer

Can they be sure that there wasn’t anyone else there and where did his phone go? Didn’t one of his texts say “join us”? So many unanswered questions. Tragic #AimeeSpencer #deathofaimeespencer

Each to their own about taking drugs n that but idk how anyone can watch the Aimee Spencer documentary and still even consider it. One night caused total devastation to so many people, shit.

You will never find out what really happened that day, but I don’t believe he pushed her or forced her to take the drugs she chose to do that all on her own just a shame she ended up dead and her family is left without there daughter #TheDeathOfAimeeSpencer

But at least there was praise for presenter Katie Piper, with viewers saying she handled her role in the documentary with sympathy and understanding:
You are doing a cracking job Katie. It's such a terribly sad case but your narration is brilliant. My condolences to the family.
