ITV's Lorraine Kelly has opened up on a secret health battle which she said was 'horrid'. The 64-year-old was on her self-titled show when she spoke about a condition she once had.

During the programme, Lorraine covered entertainment news with Tyler West. They discussed news of comedian and presenter Bob Mortimer's battle with shingles.

Bob was left with wasted muscles after suffering a six-month bout of shingles. It prompted Lorraine to share her own experience with the condition.

Lorraine said: "Shingles, I know from personal experience, I've had it's awful, Tyler. It's the worst. It's like having itchy pain, you know. It's very difficult to describe but it's horrid."

Sharing what he had heard about Bob's ordeal, Tyler said: "I mean he did say that it was probably like worse than his heart conditions that he had like six years ago. So that kind of puts into perspective how much he was in pain."

Lorraine added: "So if you can get the jab to stop that please do. If you're lucky to get that." TV star Bob presents the popular show Gone Fishing alongside Paul Whitehouse, Mirror reports.

He had to be taken by wheelchair to several of the locations while filming his show. Bob recently opened up about shingles and said: "I wasn’t very well and it made it a bit of a struggle but, as always, Paul looked after me and pulled me through.

"For half of the season, I couldn’t walk so it was very challenging at times. When we were in Trent, I was being taken from a wheelchair to the top of the bank. You never see that but you never see me on my feet either."

Updating his fans, he added: "I just tried to get some muscle back, or get some to grow a bit stronger. I’m 80 per cent back and, by the end of the series, I was reasonably sprightly."

He added: "The first two episodes are the greatest of Gone Fishing that have ever been made. I think they’re magnificent." According to the NHS website, shingles is an 'infection that causes a painful rash'.

The shingles vaccine is recommended for adults turning 65, those aged 70 to 79 and people aged over 50 who have a severely weakened immune system.

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV1.
