Ivanka Trump's inconsistent statements under scrutiny by Jan. 6 committee

On Don Lemon Tonight Thursday, British filmmaker Alex Holder sat down with Lemon to speak about testifying before the January 6 Committee earlier in the day. Holder and a crew documented the Trump family from September 2020, through the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

“They were absolutely convinced they were gonna win the election,” Holder said. “This is sort of, around about September 2020. Sort of, why not have someone follow them around on the campaign trail documenting them winning the election. And so they essentially made that choice to allow us in.”

After receiving a congressional subpoena, Holder turned over all of his footage earlier in the week. He said that during his talk with the committee, they were most interested in glaring discrepancies between Ivanka Trump’s statements about the election results to Holder, and what she said in her sworn statement when she testified before the committee in April.

“They wanted to understand exactly when that particular interview took place and how it came about,” Holder said, “and I think they — well, I think quite a few people think there’s some sort of inconsistency between what she said to the committee and what she said to me.”

Holder later added, “I don’t know what she said to her father, all I know is what she said to me. And clearly there is a difference between the position that she said to me and the position she gave to the committee.”

ALEX HOLDER: I don't know what she said to her father, but all I know is what she said to me, and clearly there is a difference between the position that she said to me and the position she gave to the committee.

KYLIE MAR: British filmmaker Alex Holder sat down with "Don Lemon Tonight" Thursday, where he spoke about testifying before the January 6 Committee earlier in the day. Unbeknownst to some White House staffers, Holder and his crew spent months with the Trumps in the lead up to the 2020 election through the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6.

ALEX HOLDER: They were absolutely convinced they were going to win the election. This is sort of around about sort of September 2020. So sort of why not have someone follow them around on the campaign trail, documenting them winning the election? And so they essentially sort of made that choice to allow us in.

KYLIE MAR: Earlier this week, Holder turned over all of his footage to the committee, and in it, Ivanka Trump is seen telling Holder that former President Trump should continue to fight the election results. But when she testified before the committee, she claimed to have not believed the election lies. Holder said this discrepancy was the focus of the committee.

ALEX HOLDER: The first part of Ivanka Trump's sort of reaction to her father's position on the election is in the documentary, but there's another part of it that didn't make it into the documentary, and they were interested in her entire sort of piece on that particular point.

KYLIE MAR: Ivanka testified before the committee for 8 hours in April, and there is no word yet on whether she'll be called to do so again given this new revelation, but Holder made it clear they want to understand the inconsistency.

ALEX HOLDER: They wanted to understand exactly when that particular interview took place and how it came about, and I think they-- well, I think quite a few people think there's sort of some sort of inconsistency between-- between what she said to the committee and what she said to me.
