Jack Draper vomits all over court as medical aid needed at US Open
Jack Draper faced an uncomfortable situation during his US Open semi-final bout against Jannik Sinner when he vomited on the court twice amid dramatic scenes.
A gruelling semi-final was stopped for a medical time out in the second set as both players required intervention.
The British No. 1, evidently battling throughout the second set, signalled for medical assistance before he was seen retching and taking it upon himself to clean the mess on the court surface.
Although the umpire seemed inclined to let the doctor attend early, Draper opted to wait until the next changeover.
Following a challenging first set defeat, Draper was ensnared in a gruelling second set that saw an arduous 28 minutes stretch to complete three games and reach a changeover, with the Brit persistently battling to hold serve.
Draper's difficulties in extreme heat and humidity were on display again during Friday's match. While Sinner was serving at 3-4, the 22 year old began to be sick after a point, reports the Express.
His condition rapidly deteriorated.
At deuce, he could no longer withstand nausea and vomited at the baseline as he prepared to return serve. "Oh, there we go," declared Jonathan Overend during the Sky Sports commentary.
To which Tim Henman responded: "Sometimes when it's humid as it obviously is with all the sweat. You can almost drink too much water and it sits in your stomach and I think that's twice that Draper has vomited."
As the world No. 25 used his towel to wipe away his own sick from the baseline, Overend commented compassionately: "Poor guy. I mean, you feel like that, that's happening, you've got to clear it up yourself you've got to carry on playing against the world No. 1."
Sinner himself also needed help after suffering a wrist injury but battled into a two set leave after the match resumed.
