Jack Whitehall bombed in front of Prince Charles
Jack Whitehall can't quite get over tanking a stand-up comedy set in front of Prince Charles and the Royal Family a few years back.
The comedian has a strange history with the royals, having ruffled feathers by mocking Prince Harry's military service at the Royal Variety performance a few years back.
That incident led to Prince Harry refusing to shake Jack's hand in front of a procession of other celebrities backstage at the Royal Albert Hall, before revealing he'd simply been pulling a prank in response to the comic's zingers.
Those few seconds of uncertainty must have been terrifying, although perhaps not as terrifying as having your jokes bomb in front of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall at another event.
On Friday night's edition of The Graham Norton Show, Jack looked back on perhaps the most mortifying comedy gig of his career at Kensington Palace.
"Charles and Camilla were in the front row, literally sitting on thrones, and I was like the court jester," he embarrassingly recalled. "It was horrendous, no one laughed."
That botched set led to yet another awkward backstage encounter with a royal when he came face to face with Prince Charles moments later.
"Afterwards Prince Charles said to me, 'You were a lot better than the contortionist we had last year'," Jack remembered.
Oof! Something tells us that Jack won't be headlining any more royal galas…
The Graham Norton Show continues next Friday (October 27) at 10.35 on BBC One with special guests Emma Thompson, Adam Sandler, Claire Foy, Cara Delevingne and music from the legendary Morrissey.
