Jack Wilshere says Manuel Pellegrini played a huge role in his decision to join West Ham, a manager who reminds him a lot of his time with Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

Wilshere ended a 17-year association with the Gunners following discussions with new manager Unai Emery, soon signing a three-year deal with the club his supported as a boy.

Further injury troubles have limited Wilshere to just four appearances this season but is confident he can make an impact at the London Stadium as Pellegrini and Wenger share a similar philosophy.

"I spoke with [Pellegrini] and he was a big influence, it was a big reason – wanting to be part of the way he wanted to play football," he told BT Sport.

"[His style] is similar [to Wenger's] because they both want the ball and they both want to win the ball back high and press, and when they get the ball back they want to play football and open teams up.

"Some things are different but I guess the way both managers want to play on the front foot with the ball is quite similar."

Wilser long struggles with injury have caught up with him, being sidelined since early September, but is happy with his transition to a new club.

"It was was pretty easy, to be honest. I had a good pre-season and I started the season quite well but, unfortunately, I picked up a little injury.

"But I'm happy with how it has gone, I'm happy with the choice I've made.

"I'm just looking forward to getting back and helping the lads out, they've been fantastic since I've been out, they've picked up some vital points.

"They've made their way up the league and I just want to come back and help them."
