Every Monday and Tuesday night a new batch of hopefuls compete for the winning slot on "America's Got Talent." Two seasons ago a young classical crossover singer named Jackie Evancho came close to that illustrious honor. But at the end of the day, she came in second to soul crooner Michael Grimm.
Jackie Evancho Continued on After "AGT"
But being runner-up hasn't slowed 12-year-old Evancho down one bit. She followed up her stint on "AGT" by becoming the youngest Top Ten debut artist in U.S. history with the release of her EP "O Holy Night." And she was ranked Billboard's top Classical Albums Artist of 2011 thanks to her full-length album "Dream with Me."
And if the rest of 2012 goes the same way that it's started, Evancho's star is only going to rise. She kicked off the year with the bragging rights that her PBS Great Performances Special had reached one million views on YouTube.
2012 Has Been a Busy Year for the Star
From there she went on a tour of Japan in January. She made a few high profile performances with the Yomiuri Nippon Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tokyo Philharmonic. But it wasn't all business, while Evancho was on the TV show Sukkiri, they gave her a life-size Hello Kitty doll, designed to look just like her.
In February, she even performed for President Obama and the First Lady at the National Prayer Breakfast. She sang the tune "To Believe" off her album "Dream with Me." The song was actually written by Jackie's uncle, Matt.
On April 30, Evancho made a high profile appearance on "Dancing with the Stars." She performed not once but twice - singing "Dark Waltz" on her own and performing Schubert's Ave Maria while Cheryl Burke and William Levy danced the Viennese Waltz.
Then she swung by "Canada's Got Talent" a few weeks later. Evancho sang the Sarah McLachlan hit "Angel," a track she covered herself on the album "Dance with Me."
Jackie Evancho Is on Tour and Filming Her Los Angeles Show
And Evancho isn't slowing down. According to her Twitter account she finished recording her latest album at the end of May. But fans will have to wait until September for its release.
First she'll appear at shows in Alpharetta, Georgia, on June 3 and Newark, New Jersey, on June 8. Then she'll head to Los Angeles to film a live concert at the Orpheum Theater on June 13. The performance is entitled "Music of the Movies," and Evancho's set list will include songs from "Sleepless in Seattle," "Mulan," "The Lion King" and "Tangled."
Evancho's off to St. Petersburg, Russia, after that where she'll perform outdoors on June 20 for the Bouquet of Opera with legendary singers Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Sumi Jo. She'll close out the summer on August 31 at the Ironstone Ampitheatre in Murphys, California. There she'll perform alongside music icon Tony Bennett. And to top it all off she'll be the face of Guess Kids this fall.
But through it all Evancho still has time to be a kid. She posted photos on her Twitter page of spring days on a water slide and some trampoline time with her brother. And on May 22, she tweeted that she might have been enjoying herself a little too much before she had an accident, "Got a six inch gash on my leg today playing airs soft my bro plastic surgeon & over 100 stitches all better."
