Jack-knifed lorry brings major motorway to a standstill

The M25 is expected to face severe delays on Thursday afternoon following a crash involving three vehicles.

The lorry involved in the incident was left jackknifed after crashing with a black cab and a car on the clockwise carriageway of the busy motorway near Leatherhead, Surrey, at 4:45am BST.

The carriageway was closed for around 13 miles between junction eight for Reigate and junction 10 for Wisley, before three of four lanes were reopened to traffic.

Police earlier confirmed the lorry driver has been airlifted to hospital but his injuries are now confirmed to not be life-threatening.

Driver Kyron Smith, who was stuck in traffic for three hours near Junction eight, told the BBC: "Nobody is moving. They haven't got us any water and they haven't let us turn back," he said.

"We have got nothing in the car, no water, and we can't stop at a service station."

At 2.50pm, a n update from Inrix read: “One lane closed and severe delays due to accident, a jackknifed lorry and two cars involved on M25 clockwise from J9 A243 (Leatherhead) to J10 A3 (Wisley Interchange).

Congestion to J6 A22 ( Godstone ), queuing on the other side due to onlookers and an earlier breakdown, traffic is struggling on the A240 and the A3 on the diversion route.

“Lanes two, three and four have re-opened around 14:40. Lane one (of four) remains closed.“

Any witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage of the accident are urged to contact Surrey Police.
