This is the adorable dog who’s helping survivors of Wednesday’s Florida high school shooting cope with their ordeal.

Jacob is a golden retriever and professional comfort dog, whose harness bears the slogan ‘please pet me’.

The pup was pictured at a vigil at Parkridge Church yesterday (Thursday) helping those affected by the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

His handler Mike Flaherty told First Coast News: “We found that kids do better petting a dog than they do talking to a counsellor. It calms people down.”

And this isn’t the first time the cute pooch has been at the scene of a major tragedy.

Jacob was also on hand to help those affected by the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando in June 2016 and the shooting in Las Vegas in October last year, when a gunman opened fire on a crowd of concertgoers.

He is part of Lutheran Church Charities, which has a team of 100 golden retrievers trained to offer support at churches, schools, nursing homes, hospitals – and national disasters.
