Jacob Elordi is reported to be replacing Paul Mescal in The Dog Stars.

According to Variety, the Saltburn and Euphoria actor is set to star in the dystopian thriller directed by Ridley Scott for 20th Century Studios.

Mescal - who recently worked with Scott on Gladiator II - was originally linked to the role, but scheduling conflicts has been cited as the reason for his exit.

Just last month during a panel talk, Scott hinted that Mescal might not be available for The Dog Stars due to a new film role.

"Paul is actually stacked up, doing the Beatles next. So I may have to let him go," he said at the time.

The thriller is set in a post-apocalyptic future where humanity has been vastly depleted by a pandemic. Elordi will play a pilot called Hig living on an airbase with an ex-marine and his dog, who sets off on a risky new mission after receiving a radio message that suggests life is out there.

The Dog Stars is based on the novel of the same name by Peter Heller, with Twisters and The Revenant's Mark L Smith working on the script.

Elordi recently finished filming on Guillermo del Toro's upcoming adaptation of Frankenstein, where he plays the titular monster.

2025 is set to be another busy year for the Priscilla star, with Elordi reprising his role as jock Nate Jacobs in Euphoria season three which is rumoured to begin filming soon.

He's also confirmed to play Heathcliff to Margot Robbie's Catherine in a new Wuthering Heights movie directed by Emerald Fennell, who he previously worked with on Saltburn.

Audiences can see Elordi on screen next in the five-part series The Narrow Road to the Deep North, also starring Kin's Ciarán Hinds.

In December, the BBC announced it had acquired the rights to the TV adaptation of Richard Flanagan's novel, though no release date has been officially shared.
