Jacques O'Neill quits 'Love Island' after row

Jacques O'Neill has quit Love Island the show has confirmed.

The rugby player's dramatic exit from the reality show comes after he attempted to win back Paige Thorne after it was revealed he kissed another girl behind her back.

A statement released by the show said: "Jacques has made the decision to leave the Villa. He will explain his reasons to the Islanders during tonight's episode. We fully support his decision and look forward to seeing what's next for Jacques."

In a trailer for tonight's episode of Love Island, it's suggested that Jacques had a row with returning contestant Adam Collard who was seen cosying up to Paige and discussing "boyfriend material".

Collard's return to the show has received a negative response from Women's Aid after the personal trainer was accused of "gaslighting" during the 2018 season of the show.

In a statement to Sky News, the charity said: "In the 2018 series of Love Island, we saw Rosie rightly call out Adam for his unacceptable behaviour, which included gaslighting and emotional abuse.

"We hope that ITV recognise how serious this issue is and that it must be learned from, considering they have asked Adam to return to the show."

Love Island has received considerable criticism with questions being raised over the duty of care the show has over its contestants.

Former contestants Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitas took their own lives in 2018 and 2019.

Original host Caroline Flack also died from suicide in early 2020.

When the dating show returned last year ITV said that contestants would be offered a minimum of eight therapy sessions following the show, as well as training on the impact of social media and "how to handle potential negativity".

Love Island airs weekdays on ITV2 at 9pm.
