Jaguar Land Rover has been given go-ahead for new additions at its Coventry site. It had applied to the city council for planning permission to make a change at the plant in Sayer Drive.

The application explained: "JLR is a British multinational automobile manufacturer which produces luxury vehicles and sports utility vehicles. Due to internal changes and refits within the JLR facility, a temporary outside solution is required to ensure that employee welfare facilities are maintained for ease of use.

"This will be in the format of an office and canteen and separate toilet block, both of which are due to be installed on site at Sayer Drive temporarily until the internal changes have concluded. At this point the temporary modular buildings will be removed."

But it is not just the temporary building, the automotive giant also asked for the go-ahead for a permanent new building. "This application also seeks permission for the installation of a modular building to be used as a gatehouse on a permanent basis," it explained. "This building will replace the existing gatehouse which is considered no longer fit for purpose as it is at the end of its life and requires replacing."

City council officers have given the planning proposals the go-ahead. But it comes with a number of conditions.

One of them is that the office/ canteen and toilet portable buildings will be removed from site no later than November 30 2027.
