An investigation has been launched after graffiti saying 'Jail Starmer' was daubed on the window of a London MP’s office. The Metropolitan Police Service says the writing was daubed on the window on Friday, September 20, and they received an allegation of criminal damage a day later.

The words 'Jail Starmer' in large white letters appeared at the South East London office of Clive Efford, the Labour MP for Eltham and Chislehurst, according to images shown online by Sky News.

The broadcaster's political editor, Beth Rigby, said on X: "Sources tell me this has been circulating around Labour MPs’ WhatsApp groups this morning. Anti-Starmer graffiti daubed on window of Clive Efford’s office in Eltham and Chislehurst in wake of row over freebies.

“An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing.”

Keir Starmer promises to stop accepting donations for clothes

It comes after the Prime Minister and his most senior ministers said they will no longer accept donations to pay for their clothes. Neither Sir Keir Starmer, Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, nor Chancellor Rachel Reeves will accept such donations in the future, the PA news agency understands.

The move comes as Labour seeks to put to bed a row about Sir Keir and his wife Lady Victoria Starmer’s acceptance of gifts, including clothing, from prominent Labour donor and peer Lord Alli. Sir Keir has accepted around £39,000 from Lord Alli since December 2019.
