James Bond 25: Christopher Nolan categorically rules out directing next Bond movie

Another James Bond movie looms, Daniel Craig returning as the infamous spy for the as-yet untitled movie due November next year.

With Sam Mendes not also coming back to the series, many have wondered who could direct the blockbuster, Dunkirk and Dark Knight filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s name being thrown around.

Speaking about the rumours during a Desert Islands Disk session with BBC Radio 4, Nolan denied taking on the franchise, categorically taking his name out of the hat.

“I won’t be the man,” he said during the segment. “No, categorically. I think every time they hire a new director I’m rumoured to be doing it.”

The question came about as Nolan selected John Williams’ score to On Her Majesty’s Secret Service as a disk, the director being a well-known fan of the James Bond movies.

Nolan added: “I’d love to make a Bond film at some point and I think those producers – Barbara and Michael – they do a tremendous job and Sam Mendes has done a terrific job the last couple of films, so they don't particularly need me. But I've always been inspired by the films and would love to do one someday.”

The next Bond movie, starring Craig, is scheduled to reach cinemas November 2019.
