James Bond speedboat and Aston Martin DB5 among 007 movie gadgets up for auction

James Bond’s speedboat could soon be seen tearing down the Thames, as 007’s gadgets go under the hammer for the first time.

The vessel is seen with Pierce Brosnan at the helm in The World Is Not Enough, but after filming for the 1999 release the boat was packed away and has remained high and dry in storage for 20 years.

But 007’s speedboat could soon be clipping down the Thames again if a fan secures the craft known as the “Q Jet Boat”, which is going up for auction in a “stunning” sale of Bond treasures.

Any future owner would have to contend with a problem unknown to Britain’s super spy, however, and secure insurance for the £30,000 stunt boat.

Adrian Hume-Sayer, head of sale and director of iconic collections at Christie’s, explained: “It was essentially taken out of the Thames after filming, and has been in storage ever since. It hasn't been used.

“It is complete, with an engine and so on. It is a stunt boat, but, in theory, it would still run.

“Of course, there would have to be various safety tests and modifications to make sure it was ‘seaworthy’. But if money is no object, a fan could take it out on the water.”

He added: “This really is a stunning sale and a dream for die hard Bond fans. Every lot is special.”

Christie’s special 60 Years of Bond sale sees garnet and gadgets coming to auction for the first time after being kept in storage by spy franchise producers Eon, including a Fabergé-style egg that is coveted and bugged in Octopussy, and Blofeld’s bionic eye from No Time To Die.

The sale estimated to be worth around £5 million also offers fans of the franchise a chance to buy and wear a £7,000 set of bow ties sported by Daniel Craig during his time as 007, or the £10,000 tuxedo donned by Timothy Dalton in A Licence To Kill.

Bond fans can also get their hands on the cars which starred in the franchise in their own right, including Die Another’s Day’s silver Aston Martin DB5 stunt car with “Q Branch modifications”, which is expected to achieve around £2 million.

A £300,000 Land Rover Defender which featured in Norway car chase scenes in No Time To Die - which dominates the sale - is available, along with a £70,000 Jaguar from another chase scene in the same film.

While Bond could drive with impunity in whichever exotic setting he was making his escape, any would-be buyers must be mindful of regulatory red-tape.

Mr Hume-Sayer said: “If an insurer says ‘have you modified the car in any way’, well, this is the ultimate reason to say ‘yes’.”

“They were originally made as road cars, but have been modified for stunt purposes so you can’t legally take them out on the road - seats are missing, parts stripped down.

“They would need some adjustments and the proper tests. But then, I’m sure they can be remodified.”

The sale including watches, dresses, and a parka worn by Rami Malik as Lyutsifer Safin, will allow past 007s to save the day once again, as from the charity auction will go to causes chosen by stars who played Britain’s finest secret agent.

Money from the sale of the The World Is Not Enough speedboat handled by Brosnan, will go to the charity of the actor's choice, The Prince’s Trust.

The later Sir Roger Moore’s championing of UNICEF will also be recognised by Christie’s, with proceeds from the Octpussy egg going to the charity.

Mr Hume-Sayer said: “In a sense, it really is like James Bond saving the day.”

The online sale runs from September 15 until James Bond Day on October 5.
