James Corden's Late Late Show Producer Addresses Carpool Karaoke Fakery Claims

The executive producer of James Corden’s US talk show has spoken out over fakery claims relating to its infamous Carpool Karaoke segments.

Since he became host of The Late Late Show in 2015, James has taken a host of A-listers for a spin in the recurring sketch, including everyone from Sir Paul McCartney and Madonna to Harry Styles and Billie Eilish.

On Thursday, a video went viral which appeared to suggest that James isn’t actually driving the car while filming Carpool Karaoke, after he and Justin Bieber were seen being pulled along on a rig.

However, executive producer Ben Winston has now set the record straight, insisting the rig has only been used on a handful of occasions, and James is usually really driving his celeb passengers around.

“We only use a rig when we are doing a ‘stunt’ as part of the Carpool – when it would be impossible for James to drive!” Ben insisted. “This has occurred only maybe 4 times in 50 or so carpools… Safety is key!

“By stunt I mean – dance routines / costumes / props etc ! Dont worry too much though. I’m pretty sure there are bigger issues to worry about!”

The Late Late Show’s Twitter account also poked fun at the controversy in a tweet:

Although for the most part the guests on Carpool Karaoke look to be having a good time, there have been one or two who haven’t enjoyed the experience.

Among them is Britney Spears, who described filming her sketch as “awkward” while the Foo Fighters later admitted they’d found the whole thing a little “uncomfortable”.
