James and Ola Jordan have told of their terror after their baby daughter was taken to hospital in an ambulance after falling ill.

The former Strictly stars sought help earlier this week as seven-week-old Ella seemed to be “choking on her own saliva”.

James, 42, said in his Hello! magazine column that the baby had been unsettled and was not sleeping well, adding: “She had a lot of saliva in her mouth and it was almost like she couldn't swallow properly. It was like she was choking on her own saliva."

After speaking to Ola’s pharmacist sister, the couple called the NHS helpline and an ambulance was sent out.

James said it was “heart-wrenching” to watch his wife and child go off while he followed in his car.

Once Ella arrived at the hospital she was seen quickly and underwent tests, and it was determined that she was suffering from reflux.

The relieved couple were able to take her home with anti-reflux medicine to help the baby feel better.

James said they wanted to speak out about the experience because although it was great that it was nothing more serious, their “hearts were skipping a beat” when it happened.

Explaining that reflux is when the acid in the stomach comes back up and can cause a burning sensation, he said: “It feels like it's being stuck in her throat and it can cause more saliva, so if she's lying on her back it can feel like she's drowning. It's quite terrifying seeing her like that."

James and Ola, 37, welcomed Ella in February after undergoing IVF.

The pair had been trying for a baby for nearly three years before they opted to undergo treatment.

James said on Instagram that he was “the happiest man in the world” when Ella arrived seven weeks ago.
