James Martin has revealed his new online shop is now open, selling food and drink as well as kitchenware and gardening kit.

"I'm so excited to announce the launch of my brand-new online marketplace," the TV chef wrote on Instagram as the James Martin Market opened. "This is a handpicked selection of some of the most amazing suppliers and producers I have come across. From fish to flowers, garden kit to gin, bubbles to signed books... amazing meat products and a whole host more, it is all there!"

James announced he’d been working on an online shop to support suppliers who’ve been struggling through the Covid-19 pandemic last month.

Sharing a video touring his picturesque restaurant The Kitchen at Clewton Glen in Hampshire, he announced his new venture to support suppliers by launching an online shop.

Explaining how the idea came about, the TV chef said that during the crisis, he tried to highlight a range of suppliers but this had an unexpected side effect.

“So every time I did it, I kept crashing their websites so after about the fourth one they said, ‘Well, why don’t you build a shop?’ So that’s what I’ve done. Well not me, it’s what my team have done really.”

Taking months to prepare, the online shop will have over 500 products on sale. “[The team have] been so busy behind the scenes building a website shop that’ll enable you to get the produce – not only that we use here – chefs use all over the UK, delivered to your door,” explained James.

“From fish to meat to oil to veg to gardening materials, garden tools, pans, pots, loads of equipment. It’s like a miniature chef’s larder,” he explained. What’s more, the store will be stocking sauces from Michelin-star chefs and “amazing” cut flowers.

As well as a great way to get high-end food and other goodies, the James Martin Market will raise money for a good cause. “The money gets straight to [the suppliers] so they get cash flow as well,” he says. “I’m not a middle man, really, I’m just sort of doing it to sort of help really, and keep them going until hopefully we’re all back to some element of normality. When that’ll be, I’ve got no idea, but it’ll give you the opportunity to buy the most amazing produce at such a good deal, I cannot tell you.”
