James Martin, known for his indulgent culinary style and love of butter, has shared the secret behind his impressive three-stone weight loss.

The star of ITV's 'James Martin's Saturday Morning' credits his slimmed-down figure to his passion for car racing, which motivated him to shed the pounds so he could enjoy the sport more fully.

James opened up about his weight loss journey on the 'Spooning with Mark Wogan' podcast, where he discussed the challenges of getting in and out of race cars at a heavier weight. He humorously remarked, "It comes down to the fact that I race cars, or I still try and race a few cars and I actually struggle to get out of them now. Getting in them, you kind of fall in them, but then you've got to get out of them and it just doesn't look very good."

In terms of diet, Martin revealed that cutting back on sweets like Twix bars and incorporating more fish into his meals has been effective. He noted, "I've decided that I maybe need to stay clear away from these (picks up a Twix bar) and stuff like that - and maybe eat fish - and it's worked."

Despite his healthier eating habits, James hasn't abandoned his favourite ingredient, butter, which makes up 80 per cent of his diet. His love for butter even inspired him to pen a cookbook titled 'Butter: Comforting, Delicious, Versatile - Over 130 Recipes Celebrating Butter', as a counterpoint to the wave of healthy eating books.

He quipped, "When everyone brought a book out about healthy food about five years ago, I brought out a book on butter."

James attributes his love for dairy to his upbringing, stating: "I'm a farmers kid, I like pure food, I like simple food and just love great ingredients.

"I like simple cooking, but also bringing out the flavour of the ingredients is more important than anything else."

Last year, James disclosed to his fans that he had been receiving ongoing treatment for facial cancer since 2018.

Despite his aim to be healthier, James chooses to skip regular workouts, explaining: "I don't go to the gym, (his weight loss) it comes down to the fact that I can get my a**e in and out of a car."

James honed his culinary expertise in France and has excelled in eateries across Britain, later launching his television journey with "James Martin: Yorkshire's Finest."

His career trajectory has only soared, boasting an impressive collection of cookbooks and television series to his name.
