Jamie Mulgrew shows no sign of slowing down as the Linfield captain produced another impressive performance in the 3-0 win over Coleraine on Saturday.

The 38-year-old continues to be the driving force for the Blues leading from the heart of midfield as he has done throughout his career.

Kirk Millar has played alongside the skipper for the past decade at Windsor Park and his influence on the team is not lost on the winger, who would love to emulate Mulgrew's longevity in the Irish League.

"He's unbelievable, I hope I'm still around when I'm his age," said Millar.

"What a career the man has had and he keeps showing it week in, week out. He plays for that shirt and all the lads and we're grateful to have him around the place.

"It's massive when you have someone controlling the middle of the pitch as most of the play goes through that central area. I thought we all did well in there [against Coleraine].

"Even the subs as I thought Josh Archer was brilliant in there when he came on and it was great to see him get some game time. It's a squad game and it was a very good squad performance."

It's the start of a big week for Linfield as they commence their defence of the BetMcLean Cup.

The Blues have won the competition on the last two seasons and are keen to make it a hat-trick.

They face a tricky trip away to Championship side Dundela before the first 'Big Two' clash of the season at Windsor Park on Friday night with Millar relishing the games coming thick and fast.

"It's a big week coming up, I actually like it when there's a lot of games as you don't have to train as much, you just have to play games and rest," said Millar.

"I'm looking forward to the week ahead. It's always great to play in the League Cup, we've obviously done very well in it over the last couple of years.

"The Big Two game is always a great game, and no matter what form any team is in coming into the game it goes out the window."
