Janey Godley has shared a final happy anniversary message to her husband after sharing that she is now receiving end-of-life care.

The Scottish comedian has been having treatment for ovarian cancer, but after cancelling her tour earlier this month on doctors' orders she told fans on Wednesday that she was having palliative care and would be moving to a hospice.

Godley has received an outpouring of supportive messages from fans and celebrities, and on Friday she marked her 44th wedding anniversary by sharing photos from her teenage wedding to husband Sean Storrie.

Photos showed Godley in 1980 aged 19 wearing her wedding dress and signing the register, and smiling with Storrie in the early days of their relationship.

She wrote: "44 years ago two teens got married -all my love Mr Storrie happy anniversary."

Godley posted another photo of her hand holding Storrie's and wrote: "Anniversary hugs on the ward."

Her fans wished her a happy anniversary as one person commented: "Happy Anniversary. Thinking of you both at this difficult time and wishing you the best possible day, full of happy memories. Love to both of you."

Someone else wrote: "All you can hope for in life is that you had a positive impact on the people around you and that you were loved. You are still living that life, Janey. Have the best day you can. X"

Another fan added: "Look at you two, you’re gorgeous! I love that you’re sharing memories with us. I feel privileged to follow you."

On Wednesday, Godley shared the news that she is now receiving end-of-life care after her cancer spread and is moving to a hospice.

Posting a video on X from her hospital bed, she said: "The chemo ran out of options, and I couldn’t take anymore of it. The cancer has spread, so it looks like this will be getting to near the end of it, and it’s really difficult to speak about this and say it to people.

"It is devastating news, to know that I’m facing end of life but we all come to an end some time. I don’t know how long I’ve got left before anybody asks, I’m not a tick tock, I just want you all to know that I appreciate all the love you’ve gave me."

Her daughter Ashley Storrie shared her own thoughts on social media, explaining that she was going to keep working as that is what her mum had asked her to do.

Storrie said: "I won't be sitting a vigil by her bedside crying because she doesn't want me to and I'm going to respect her wishes. I love my mum and every weird and uncomfortable and unusual facet of her and I'm going to respect her wishes in this time.

"I only have one favour to ask of you and that's to have a bit of compassion and recognise that no everybody processes things the same as you do - I've got an autistic brain, but I'm very grateful for all your love and support so thank you."

Godley was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021 and was in remission by 2022, but the cancer later returned and spread.

Earlier in September, she had to cancel the autumn leg of her stand-up tour Why Is She Still Here? on the advice of doctors, having previously said she wanted to "go out with a bang" by enjoying laughing with her audience on her last tour.

Posting on social media, she said of the cancelled tour: "I’m really sorry. We sold thousands and thousands of tickets and there’s so many people employed and my poor bloody agent Chris has been magnificent.

"I’m in the hospital. I’ve been here for eight days, I had sepsis as well, and my cancer team has advised me not to work again, just to try and get better. The sepsis is under control but the cancer is spreading so they’ve told me not to work."

Glaswegian comedian Godley began her stand-up career in the 90s and has made many TV appearances, including in the Scottish soap River City. She went viral in 2016 after holding up an offensive word on a placard during Donald Trump's visit to Scotland.

However, her fame took off in 2020 after two projects related to the Covid pandemic gained wider attention.

She recorded a series of monologues called Alone for the National Theatre of Scotland where she played a woman whose abusive husband had died of coronavirus.

But Godley's best-known work was her spoof voiceovers of Nicola Sturgeon, the then First Minister of Scotland, in her Covid briefings which won her the best online content prize at the Scottish Comedy Awards.

Along with Godley's many fans, well-known figures have been sending her messages of support - including Nicola Sturgeon.

The former First Minister posted on X: "Sending you so much love, my friend. You are an inspiration."

Rufus Hound commented: "Is that you off then? Well, right to the end funny, brave and a global example as to what to tell fascists. They'll not make better, JG. Thanks for absolutely everything. Goodnight and good luck x"

Dom Joly wrote: "God bless you Janey - you are truly wonderful," and Hugh Grant made reference to her famous Trump placard as he told her: "Cancer is a c***. Much love to you."

Nigella Lawson commented: "Oh Janey, this is heartbreaking. Thank you for all you’ve given the world – and for being you."

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill posted a scene of himself as Luke Skywalker captioned "the force is strong with this one" and wrote: "Sending you much love & best wishes always, Janey. from your fan, Mark."

Midge Ure posted: "Oh Janey. Gie it laldy till ye can gie it laldy no more! X"
