Janey Godley receiving 'end-of-life' care as Glasgow comedian confirms cancer has spread

Glasgow comedian Janey Godley has confirmed that she is receiving “end-of-life” care following news that her cancer has spread.

The 63-year-old cancelled Why Is She Still Here? tour her earlier this month after doctors advised "not to work again" during a hospital stay as she received treatment for incurable ovarian cancer.

Now the comic has taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to confirm she is receiving palliative care and would be going into a hospice amid her cancer diagnosis. The brave star said the “devastating news” was difficult to speak about after stating that she could no longer go through chemotherapy.

She said: “The chemo ran out of options, and I couldn’t take anymore of it.

"The cancer has spread, so it looks like this will be getting to near the end of it, and it’s really difficult to speak about this and say it to people.”

“It is devastating news, to know that I’m facing end of life but we all come to an end some time. I don’t know how long I’ve got left before anybody asks, I’m not a tick tock, I just want you all to know that I appreciate all the love you’ve gave me.

"Cancer affects one in two people and it’s affected me.”

Godley finished the video by sending love and support to people living with a “life-limiting disease” before confirming it was why she had to cancel the tour. She also thanked the NHS, Marie Curie as well as medical staff who helped her during her treatment.

Janey rose to fame during the pandemic with her dubbed videos of Nicola Sturgeon’s coronavirus news briefings She revealed she had ovarian cancer in November 2021.

In 2022 she was given the all-clear and said in a post to X that a scan showed “no evidence of disease”. However, she later announced that another scan had shown signs of the disease in her abdomen but added that she would continue with her tour in February and March 2023.
