January meal offers around Newcastle to enjoy for the rest of the month
With well over 100 city restaurants taking part in this January's restaurant week, the event is on course to deliver another major boost to their trade.
The NE1 event, which runs twice and year with a range of reduced-cost menus on offer around Newcastle, benefits both the participating restaurants and their customers. It has helped turn around a traditionally quiet time of year into an extra-busy one and this month's outing, which wraps up on Sunday, January 19, is set to see the same results.
But Restaurant Week only involves the NE1 postcode area and there are many other venues across the region which also offer January discount deals in a bid to boost business. So, it you missed out this week or are looking to book a meal out to beat the January blues, below is a pick of just some of the restaurants, bars and pubs with special offers running this month.

Among them are a couple which took part in Restaurant Week but also have longer-running offers of their own in place - and many others follow suit so keep an eye out for special meal deals around. Remember too that Durham Restaurant Week will be making a return from January 31 until February 7 with more big savings to be made.
The Old George
The historic Newcastle boozer is adding to its attractions this January with a special 40%-off offer, inviting customers to treat themselves to favourite dishes from the menu to enjoy with drinks. Its offer is available from Sunday to Thursday until January 31 to those who pre-book a table, using the code JAN40.
The city centre pub tells customers they can bag 'a huge 40% off your total bill'. See here.
The Woodman's Arms
Families looking for somewhere to go for an eat-out treat might like to know that this pub in Whickham, Newcastle, has a £1 child's meal offer running during January which applies to up to two children with each full-paying adult.
Kids can choose from its usual children's menu and for that £1 can enjoy a main course, glass of cordial and a scoop of ice cream. The accompanying adult would have to choose from the main menu or pub's current Winter Warmers menu.
The deal applies week-days until January 31. See here to book a table.
Marco Pierre White Steakhouse, Bar & Grill
A visit to the celebrity chef's Durham restaurant is always a stylish affair, being housed within Hotel Indigo which transformed the city's former Old Shire Hall, and it is now out to impress customers even more with a January half-price offer. It's 50%-off deal applies to The Grill - classic and signature steaks - plus main courses but not to its larger steaks.
It is available until January 30 - save for Saturdays from 6pm - and must be booked in advance: see here.
Zizzi
The Italian restaurant chain, which has branches in Grey Street, Newcastle, and the Metrocentre in Gateshead, is offering diners 50% off their main course - including picks of pizza, pasta, meat, fish, risotto and salads - during January. The half-price offer applies from 5pm on Sundays until 5pm on Fridays (so basically not on Saturdays; Friday evenings or Sunday day-time).
To take advantage, customers just have to scan a QR code which can be obtained by joining its free Zillionaires' Club online here. The code should then be shown to staff before ordering.
As further incentive to book, there are new pizza dishes on the menu including a calzone la bomba or Bold Bean Co. butter bean stufato. The deal runs until January 29.
The Tyne Bar
The Ouseburn pub has been advertising its 'great value' food, saying every special on the menu this week is £9.95 - it adds that almost everything on the menu is under a tenner anyway - and the meals include such winter warmers as beef and ale stew with mash and greens; pork loin in white wine gravy and vegan mince and dumplings.
It has also offered roast red pepper soup for £6 with an option to turn it into a meal by adding a toastie for £9.95. The riverside pub also has been highlighting the return of its Free Food Tuesday with this week's offer being 'Texan loaded fries' - available on the house to those spending £7 at the bar from 7pm-9pm.
Adam & Eve
The restaurant-bar in Alnwick, Northumberland - which, as previously reported, launched in 2021 in grand style - has a January food deal on offer, running Wednesday to Friday, which means that diners who order a starter or dessert can have their main course for half- price.

Manahatta
The New York-theme bar which opened in Newcastle in autumn 2023 is helping customers to beat the winter blues with the help of half-price food available during January. Customers are invited to pre-book for the offer which is running all-day from Sunday to Friday until January 31.

Popeyes
The Louisiana-style fried chicken favourite has spiced up its menu for January with the return of a popular burger plus meal deals for a fraction of the usual price. On its Savin' Menu, the Buffalo Ranch Sandwich is back - just until January 31 - while it has cut prices on 11 items, starting with the likes of two wings now available for £1.99 or a 'Savin’ wrap' for the same price.
Other options include three wings with fries for £3.49; mac and cheese at £3.50 and, again for a limited time, there's 30% off a classic or spicy wrap meal, with fries and drink, which is reduced to £5. Popeyes, which opened its first local restaurant at Gateshead's Metrocentre in 2022, now also has a drive-thru and dine-in site in Bishop Auckland, County Durham.
German Doner Kebab
A 'Mad Jan' offer is running at the kebab restaurant, known as GDR, which has outlets in Newcastle and the Metrocentre, and this reduces the cost of main dishes to £5.99. The deal, available every day until January 30, includes beef, chicken or mixed premium meat kebabs as well as plant-based doner and other vegetarian options.
For £2.99 more, customers can add fries, a dip and a drink. The Mad Jan offer applies to all dine-in and takeaway orders.
Ask Italian
As 'kids have had their go', the restaurant says it's now the adults' turn so this January becomes treat-time for grown-ups, with an offer inviting them to eat for £1. That means an adult main meal is available for that price when another adult's full-price main meal is bought.
The deal applies from Sunday to Friday until January 30 and there are branches of the restaurant in Newcastle, Metrocentre and Durham: see here.
Victors Newcastle
A January sale at the Asian-inspired quayside restaurant-bar cuts 50% off its a la carte menu in January so expect the likes of lobster mac and cheese for £14; small plates from £4.88 or grilled sea bass for £12.50. The offer runs all day Monday to Thursday; until 5pm on Fridays and then from 5pm on Sundays - up to February 2.
To claim the deal, tables must be booked in advance: see here.
Slug & Lettuce
Half-price food is also out to tempt customer at this popular restaurant-bar chain which has two venues in Newcastle and one in Durham. Those wanting to take advantage of its Monday to Thursday-only offer just need to quote '#Jan50' when making a booking: see here.

A 'luxurious' menu is available at the local branches - Gosforth Park, Newcastle and Tynemouth - of the restaurant until the end of January. Out to tempt the taste buds are such options as the spicy and sweet Sticky Chicken; a Dirty Burger; a Black Angus 8oz sirloin and Sticky Toffee sponge with dates: see here for Gosforth Park's details.

Note that the restaurant does not open on Mondays or Tuesdays. For booking details see here.
Twenty Twenty
Half-price food is up for grabs at this pizza specialist which has been impressing customers with its whopping portions since it first opened its doors in Newcastle's Bigg Market in 2021. Taking its name from its grand 20-inch pizzas and range of 20 cocktails, the restaurant marked its second birthday last year with an expansion to include an additional dining floor and big kitchen.
These no doubt will be kept busy during its January offer, which extends beyond its separate Restaurant Week involvement. Diners can enjoy 50% off food until January 31, save for Saturdays. Read more here.
Osters by Lovage
The Gosforth restaurant - which, as previously reported, was opened in 2023 by the team behind Osters, who created another Michelin Guide success - has a set menu on offer of two courses for £25, or three for £30, with the likes of Scottish squid, mackerel and lemon posset.
