Jared Leto has encouraging news for fans waiting for Tron 3: the sequel is still very much in the works!

The future of the Tron franchise has been murky since Tron: Legacy was released in 2010, with a third instalment variously shelved and revived at multiple times in the ensuing years.

Earlier this year, there were indications that Disney wanted to revamp Tron around a brand new hero played by Jared Leto - and it looks like that still may come to pass.

"It was a huge movie for me as well and I do think there's so much potential in that world, there's so much left to be said," he's now told Collider. "I'm absolutely game to try to help in any way that I can bring that to life."

He then teased: "It's something that we're in discussions about and very much looking forward to bringing to reality. It's very early days though."

It's not currently clear if Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski will be a part of any proposed sequel or spin-off, since he recently said: "Tron 3 is in cryogenic freeze. So, it's there. It's not dead.

"It's alive, but it's sitting there, waiting for the right time to move forward."

Tron: Legacy made more than $400 million on its original box office release in 2010, and spun off the Disney animated series Tron: Uprising to bridge the gap between the 1982 original and its sequel.
