Reports have emerged claiming that Liverpool could pursue a move to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. The future of the Blues centre-back was the subject of intense transfer speculation during the summer transfer window.

Manchester United were heavily linked with a move to sign Branthwaite and even had two bids rejected for the defender with the latter worth £45 million plus add-ons. Everton turned down both bids and United went on to sign Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro instead.

Liverpool were tentatively linked with a move for Branthwaite in the summer. Now further reports have emerged claiming that a move to Anfield could be on the cards.

According to the Daily Mail, there is a "feasible" chance that Liverpool could sign Branthwaite when the transfer window reopens in January. It has been reported that the Reds are "admirers" of the Everton centre-back and could beat Man United to his signature in the New Year.

Reports first emerged claiming that Liverpool were interested in signing Branthwaite back in August. However, the ECHO reported that, despite the links, Everton had not been in any contact with the Reds over the possibility of signing Branthwaite in the summer.

Branthwaite is contracted at Goodison Park until 2027 and made his long-awaited return from injury at the weekend. The 22-year-old starred for the Blues as Sean Dyche and Co. got their first win of the Premier League season with a 2-1 victory at home to Crystal Palace.

Everton were determined to keep hold of Branthwaite in the summer despite knowing that player sales would be needed to keep in line with Premier League Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR). The Blues currently believe they are in a strong financial position should any further interest emerge in Branthwaite.
