Jay Slater's father has revealed some of the harrowing efforts the family went through after the devastating disappearance of his son.

Nineteen year old apprentice bricklayer Jay vanished while on a trip to Tenerife, last seen on 17 June during a three-day music event he attended with mates from his hometown of Oswaldtwistle.

The Mirror reported the grim discovery of his body on 15 July near Masca village, just a short distance from where he was last known to have been. An initial post-mortem suggested he died following a 'fall or plunge from height', and while civil authorities confirmed multiple fractures, it's still a mystery why Jay ended up alone in that area.

Warren Slater, reeling from the loss, turned to TikTok recently to shed light on the ongoing probe into his son's vanishing including the peculiar find of what he initially believed to be Jay's "lost apartment key".

A recent upload to Warren's TikTok, now watched upwards of 50,000 times, shows him clarifying: "Just to show a video to confirm this is my account. The keys I found do belong to Down the Rapids guy. I found them at the end of the path."

The nickname 'Down the Rapids' refers to fellow TikToker Paul Arnott, who had been actively involved in the search efforts for Jay while in Tenerife. Warren remarked: "I haven't been back to Tenerife ever since I came back from looking for my son. The videos that I've been posting are just documentation of what I was up to, where I was searching, things I was looking at while I was out there and that's it."

Warren also disclosed that the keys he discovered, initially thought to be Jay's misplaced apartment keys, actually belonged to TikTok detective Paul Arnott, known as Down the Rapids, who journeyed to Spain to assist the family in cracking the case. It has been reported that Jay had mentioned losing his keys the evening prior to his disappearance.

Jay is said to have messaged Ayub Qassim, the last individual to see him alive, about misplacing his key. Mr Qassim then offered Jay a place to stay for the night at his Airbnb rental and transported him there in the early hours of Monday morning.

At approximately 8am, Jay set out on a perilous 11-hour walk back to his apartment by foot.

Mr Qassim has stated that Jay returned to the Airbnb, Casa Abuela Tina, because his friends had departed early, leaving him behind. Ex-police detective Mark Williams-Thomas, who has been working with Jay's family in Tenerife following up on various leads, previously stated: "[Qassim] said he was on the trip, Jay wanted to carry on partying and he said he had nowhere to stay, so he said he could come back to his."

"In the car, they played music and chatted before stopping to get a drink at a cafe just prior to entering the mountains. [Qassim] was driving, his friend was in the passenger seat, and Jay was in the back."
