Jeff Brazier has opened up about former partner Jade Goody’s death in an emotional moment on Celebrity Race Across the World.

The TV presenter is taking part in the current season of the BBC show alongside his and Jade’s son Freddy.

In a heartfelt moment on last night’s (August 21) episode, Jeff spoke about raising Freddy and his brother Bobby following her death in 2009 from cervical cancer.

“I think when the boys lost their mum I really doubled down on putting all of my time, effort, attention, focus on my children,” he told the camera.

“I needed to be there, helping them to navigate whatever the future was going to look like for them given their loss. And I'm still playing that role.”

He added: “The more Fred does for himself, I know that he can start to push on in life.”

In a later scene, Freddy himself reflected on his relationship with his dad in a touching moment to camera, admitting he’s “not been that close” with him for a while.

“At the time I lost my mum, dad had to push his feelings and all of that aside to be there for me and my brother, and at times where I’ve pushed him away, he’s pulled even harder to bring me back in,” he explained.

“I have not been that close with him for a long time… but I actually quite love being around him. I don’t think I praise my dad enough or thank my dad enough for everything he’s done for me. I should, he knows the love… but no I don’t tell him enough.”

Towards the end of the episode, Jeff admitted he found it “hard to switch off” sometimes and that “everything is responsibility”, admitting to his son that he needs “to get better at just relaxing”.

“After this trip I feel like things could be a lot better than they have been,” Freddy added.

Celebrity Race Across the World season 2 is currently airing Wednesday nights at 9pm on BBC One.
