Jeff Brazier has offered fans an intriguing peek behind the scenes of the hit BBC series Race Across the World.

The 45 year old television star embarked on an adventurous journey from Belem, Brazil, to Frutillar, Chile, with his son Freddy. They were one of four celebrity pairs vying for victory, with the grand finale set to air tonight (Wednesday, September 18).

In the previous episode, which aired last week, Kola Bokinni and his cousin Mary Ellen clinched the second-to-last stage of the race by a mere seven minutes, leaving Jeff and Freddy in second place as they reached Tilcara, Argentina.

Jeff revealed: "Amazon to the Andes; so that's cool. I didn't think we'd be going (to) South America. You don't find out where you're going literally until you get to the airport. They keep it a really close-guarded secret," reports Wales Online.

He added: "They don't want you looking at the language and learning any that's gonna help you. They don't want you sort of getting any guide books that you can sort of sneak in your bag and have an advantage.

"They want you literally to not have a clue and we didn't. So then they're like, 'Right, you're going to a place called Belem'. Where's Belem? And it's the gateway to the Amazon and it smelt a lot like fish."

BBC Radio 2 presenter Scott Mills, along with his now-husband, Sam, and celebrity couple Kelly Brook and Jeremy faced the challenging task of traversing across South America on a modest budget of £1,100 for the show.

They were faced with significant restrictions, such as not being allowed to use smartphones or the internet; their only tools included a GPS device, a map, and a travel guide, which they needed to navigate to five checkpoints.

Adding to the conversation in the same podcast, Jeff hinted at the potential outcome for himself and his son in the adventure series, confessing: "I can't see us winning a gold medal for our performance, but it was quite an experience."
