Jelly Roll already knows he wants to return to the Emmys!

While speaking with PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly on the Red Carpet Live show ahead of the 2024 Emmy Awards on Sunday, Sept. 15, the musician, 39, said he wants to jump into a television series so he may return in the future after calling his first time at the awards show "the coolest experience."

"It's crazy, man," he said. "I want to be in a TV show now so I can come here every year, dude. I'm calling all my country music friends and telling them 'we are missing the mark, dude, we gotta be at the Emmys.' "

The country musician and rapper, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, added that he felt "honored" to be asked to perform Sunday's In Memoriam segment.

"It's an honor because tonight I've been selected to honor some of the greatest storytellers in the business, ever," he told Entertainment Weekly's Editor-in-Chief Patrick Gomez and PEOPLE's Editor at Large Janine Rubenstein. "And I'm a storyteller in my own regard and I think it's really cool that in a room full of storytellers, we're going to use music as a moment to honor some of them and hopefully help."

"That's what music is really about, right? Music is medicine. So hopefully someone watching the program tonight gets helped," he added.

Jelly Roll is currently on tour across the country. He noted that the most common question he received on the carpet Sunday evening involved people asking after his wife of eight years, Bunnie Xo.

"I hope you're watching this, momma — the most asked carpet on the red carpet has been 'Where is your wife?' We're in the middle of a tour right now, we played New Orleans last night and we're in Orlando the next day or two, so she took a day with the family to take them to the beach in my absence," he explained. "I told her God had a little side quest for me, so I had to slide to L.A. and do this."
