Former Doctor Who star Jenna Coleman has recalled an embarrassing anecdote in which she mistakenly thought she had been asked out. Oops.

The actress opened up about the hilarious time she was buying a sandwich at a train station when a case of misinterpretation led to a bit of awkwardness.

Answering the question of her most embarrassing moment to The Guardian, Coleman recalled: "Buying a sandwich at Leeds train station.

"The man said to me: 'Do you want to go for a drink?' I said, 'I am so sorry, I’ve got a boyfriend.' And he replied, 'No, it’s a meal deal: if you take a sandwich, you can get a drink as well.'"

Awks. Still, we've all been there.

As well as playing Doctor's companion Clara Oswald in Doctor Who, Coleman has played a swathe of acclaimed lead roles in recent years, including a struggling mother in the BBC's The Cry and Queen Victoria in ITV's Victoria.

She's recently reprised the latter role in the third series, which is currently airing in the US before the UK.

However, ITV boss Kevin Lygo has revealed that Victoria will hit UK screens "in the spring or summer", adding of the delay: "We have to get it right and put it up against the right things on the BBC and elsewhere." Fair enough.
