Jenna Russell has hit back at claims she was “axed” from EastEnders after rumours of her departure from the soap circulated.
On Sunday night, it emerged that Russell would be written out of the soap as Michelle Fowler, after returning in 2016 as the new face of the iconic character.
And on Monday, the talented actress hit back at speculation she was dropped from the show, tweeting: “Just for clarity, I wasn’t “axed” just fancied doing something else.
“Nothing else. Have a great day x #actorslife,” she added.

EastEnders have themselves confirmed the news, with a spokesperson telling Standard Online: “Jenna is a terrific actress who has loved her time on the show playing Michelle and it was a mutual decision to write the character out. We wish Jenna all the best for the future.”
Susan Tully, who previously played Michelle, declined to return to the programme she left in 1995, which led to the sceptically-greeted recast.
Michelle’s happy return was blighted by her secret love affair with a student over in America, Preston, who late turned up in Walford to try rekindle their love before the secret came tumbling out.
Unlucky Michelle then met Tom on the tube to work and it wasn’t long before his nasty side was revealed.
After stalking her, Tom was shunned from the Square and Michelle attempted to carry on as normal after the scary experience.
EastEnders airs Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays on BBC One.
