Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux have been reunited as they mourned the death of their dog Dolly.

The Friends star, 50, and the 47-year-old actor separated at the end of 2017 after six years together and were reported to have reached a custody agreement regarding their four dogs.

Theroux revealed on Instagram that white German Shepherd rescue dog Dolly had been put to sleep in an emotional funeral surrounded by “her entire family”.

Aniston is thought to have adopted Dolly in 2006, before she was with Theroux.

When they split it was reported she kept custody of Dolly, Clyde and a pit bull mix Sophie with her in Los Angeles, while Justin adopted a new pit bull Kuma.

Aniston named Dolly after the country singer Dolly Parton.

Parton told chat show host Jimmy Kimmel last year: “I told her that I named my dog after her.

“Dolly and I were doing press together [for Netflix movie Dumplin] and somehow that came up.

“She [Dolly Parton] said, ‘And when she said I named my dog Dolly after you, I didn't know how I felt about that.’

“And I was like ‘Oh God, I've insulted her.’ Then the interviewer said, ‘Well would you now get a dog and name it Jennifer?’

“And I said, ‘Well that's so not a dog's name. I've never met a dog named Jennifer.’

“So I guess, I slightly offended her. I realised telling someone you named your dog after them isn’t... I just think it's cute. She's so sweet.”

And Aniston - who starred in 2008 movie Marley & Me about a beloved family dog - has previously spoken about how attached she is to her canine friends.

She said at a press conference in 2009: “Men come and go, but there really is no relationship like the one you have with a dog.

“It is a pity that they - the dogs that is - don't live as long as they should. You have to say goodbye way too soon. It makes me so sad. But the love of a dog is unconditional and I really love that. They are real friends.

“I have some great human friends, of course, but my dog friends are very special. OK, so they don't text me or buy me flowers but they do so much more.

“They pick me up if I need it, they always greet me when I come home and they never complain about anything. It's great to relax with the dogs around and us all watching something on TV.”

Aniston and Theroux were friends before they started dating in 2011 and married in 2015.

Theroux has said of their breakup: “It was heartbreaking, only in the sense that the friendship would not be the same, as far as just the day to day.

“But the friendship is shifting and changing, you know, so that part is something that we’re both very proud of.”
