Jennifer Aniston and husband Justin Theroux didn't start dating until 2011, and were married in 2015 (after years of media speculation about Jennifer's marital status, of course).

But the couple could have met years earlier if Justin had only dragged himself out of bed on the day of his audition for a little sitcom you might have heard of: Friends.

Justin moved to New York in the early '90s to act, but proclaims that he was too lazy to actually turn up for many auditions in his early career, preferring lie-ins and skateboarding.

"No, I didn't bother," he told Mr Porter when asked whether he auditioned for Friends, on which Jennifer got her big break as the iconic Rachel Green. "I slept in that day."

Not that Justin necessarily thinks it's a bad thing that he missed out on a part in one of the biggest television shows ever. "I wouldn't have been prepared for [the fame]," he said.

We can't imagine Justin playing any of the main six characters, but who knows what could have happened if he had appeared on the show? Imagining how the actors' lives might have panned out if Justin and Jen had met 20 years earlier is a bit like one of those alternative universe Friends episodes in itself.

Regardless of that near-miss, Justin and Jennifer did meet and are now happily married. Guess it all worked out in the end.
