Yahoo News Jennifer Aniston donates $1 million to racial justice charity
Many people around the world are showing support for Black Lives Matter in the best way they can, from signing petitions to joining protests and donating to funds. Some of the biggest names in Hollywood have also stepped up, using their wealth and platforms to support the call for change.
Jennifer Aniston is the latest star to offer help, giving $1 million (about £900,000) to Color Of Change, a nonprofit civil rights advocacy group. The actress donated the generous sum of money "to the charity she felt resonated with her the most" after being "deeply affected" by the horrific killing of George Floyd by police in Minneapolis. The actress also added the website for Color Of Change to her Instagram bio.
A source told The Mirror, "Like most people, Jen has been deeply affected by what is going on in America and the terrible injustice that people of colour experience every day."
Aniston herself was quoted as saying, "This week has been heartbreaking for so many reasons. We need to acknowledge that the racism and brutality in this country has been going on for a long time – and it’s NEVER been okay.
"As allies, who want equality and peace. It’s our responsibility to make noise, to demand justice, to educate ourselves on these issues, and more than anything, to spread love."
Earlier this month, the Friends star once again showed her charitable spirit by auctioning off a black and white portrait of herself to aid covid-19 relief. The beautiful image was taken in 1995 by longtime friend and photographer Mark Seliger and sees her posing nude with her now-iconic Rachel hairstyle.
