Jennifer Aniston and Jimmy Kimmel weren’t taking any risks as they presented the first trophy at the 72nd Emmy Awards.

The ceremony was presented virtually for the first time due to the coronavirus pandemic, with stars accepting their awards via video link.

However, presenter Kimmel still arrived suited and booted for the awards show, hosting proceedings from the empty Staples Centre in Los Angeles.

He was joined by Friends favourite Aniston to present the first award of the night, and the pair went the extra mile to make sure they were keeping safe.

After sanitising the winner’s envelope, the pair then decided to be extra cautious and set fire to the nominations list.

While Aniston, 51, said Kimmel’s actions were “extreme”, the 52-year-old retorted: “You never know where these accountants' hands have been. Now it goes into the basket and we light it up.”

After waiting five seconds for “the germs to burn off”, Aniston then extinguished the envelope, only for it to ignite once again seconds later.

Aniston herself was nominated for Best Actress at the awards thanks to her role as Alex Levy in The Morning Show, but lost out to Zendaya in the category.

But it was a busy night regardless for the star. Following her brief time on stage, Aniston hosted a mini Friends reunion with co-stars Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow back at her house, where she appeared on video link in a bright pink robe.

The big winner of the night was media family saga Succession, which took home the coveted Best Drama prize.

Meanwhile, Schitt’s Creek made history as the first comedy to sweep every acting award.
