Jennifer Lopez 'loved getting' $2.5M pink diamond engagement ring from Ben Affleck

Jennifer Lopez still has love for that engagement ring Ben Affleck gave her in 2002.

The singer mentioned it Monday during a group chat on Apple Music, as she talked about what she’s been watching with her kids, 12-year-old twins Max and Emme, while staying at home during the coronavirus crisis. Musicals, including Funny Girl, with Barbra Streisand, topped the list. And this reminded her of her first encounter with the legendary performer.

“I met [Streisand] at an Oscar party, years ago, and I was at the time engaged to Ben Affleck, and — she’s really into diamonds, which I didn’t know,” Lopez said. “He had given me a pink diamond, which got a lot of press and was … whatever. I loved getting it, don’t get me wrong.”

Streisand, of course, wanted to see the 6.1-carat ring from Harry Winston, reportedly valued at as much as $2.5 million, roughly £2 million today.

“So, she came up to me, and like, she’s heard of it,” Lopez said. “And she’s like, ‘Can I see your ring?’ And she asked me about the ring, but then she asked me — and I thought it was so strange — about being famous, and how I handle it.”

Lopez and Affleck were infamously plagued by attention from the paparazzi and the media in general during their 18-month relationship.

Bennifer called off the wedding and eventually parted ways altogether in 2004.

In December 2017, Lopez told Vanity Fair that going through such immense scrutiny of her relationship with Affleck and enduring all the criticism heaped on Gigli, the panned movie they made together, truly affected her.

“I was eviscerated,” Lopez told the magazine. “I lost my sense of self, questioned if I belonged in this business, thought maybe I did suck at everything. And my relationship [with Affleck] self-destructed in front of the entire world. It was a two-year thing for me until I picked myself up again.”

She remains friendly with Affleck, though.

Since March 2019, Lopez has worn a massive engagement ring given to her by retired pro baseball star Alex Rodriguez. They’re planning a wedding date around the quarantine.
