Breakups are hard—and not just for the two people involved in the relationship, but also for the couple's mutual friends who are often put in the awkward position of picking sides. However, one person who apparently isn't choosing teams amid the Bennifer breakup is Matt Damon

Despite being best friends with Ben Affleck since they were kids, Damon is still keeping the line of communication open with the actor's ex Jennifer Lopez. On Friday, both Damon and Lopez attended the Unstoppable premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (Damon is a co-producer alongside Affleck and Lopez, while J.Lo also plays the lead), and following the red carpet, the two reportedly engaged in a "deep conversation" at the after-party.

According to a source at People, Lopez and Damon hung out and talked for over 20 minutes at the event. Lopez was spotted sitting outside at a table at the EPOCH Bar & Kitchen Terrace at The Ritz-Carlton along with the actor's wife Luciana Damon and co-star Don Cheadle when Damon came to join them.

“Jen and Matt began talking and had a long, deep conversation,” the source said, adding that the two friends laughed before speaking more seriously. The insider also revealed that, at one point, they clasped hands for several minutes as they spoke.

Affleck, for his part, skipped the film's premiere and was spotted out in Los Angeles wearing a navy suit and sunglasses. But his absence wasn't because of any "awkwardness" between him and Lopez, per Unstoppable's director William Goldenberg. “Everybody’s a professional, and that’s their own personal thing," he told Variety. "I love them both. I mean, I know Ben better, but Jennifer was literally a dream to work with. She was incredible. And their personal life is their personal life."

Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck on the second anniversary of their Georgia wedding, citing irreconcilable differences and listed the date of separation as April 26, 2024. "She tried really hard to make things work, and is heartbroken," a source said at the time. “The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.”
