Jeremy Clarkson has opened up about his health overhaul after a new arrival in his life made him 'determined not to die'. The 65 year old TV personality shocked fans last year when he revealed that he had undergone emergency heart surgery.

The star of Clarkson's Farm ended up having two stents fitted to improve blood flow to his heart, leading to significant changes in his diet and lifestyle. He had symptoms of feeling "clammy", a "tightness" in his chest, and "pins and needles" in his left arm after returning from a holiday.

In his latest column for The Sunday Times, Jeremy shared one of his biggest motivations for getting fit and healthy - his granddaughters. Jeremy is a proud grandfather to two grandchildren, Arlo Rose and Xanthe Fiadh, through his eldest daughter Emily.

Speaking about his joy at being a grandfather, Jeremy said: "I have decided that it is so wonderful that I want it to go on for as long as is humanly possible. Which means I must do everything in my power to not die."

He then detailed his past attempts to get fit, expressing his dislike for the gym, cycling, and yoga. He said he doesn't burn enough calories while walking.

So following his heart surgery, Jeremy has taken to Pilates. He explained: "What we’ve learnt so far is that my pelvis is so cockeyed I look like a broken shotgun, my legs are very "heavy" and that my fat can be made to hurt."

Although the exercises are less intense, Jeremy revealed he frequently wakes up with stiff legs, despite not feeling like he had exerted himself. His instructor assures him he is indeed making progress, and Jeremy noted: "That makes me happy because so far I’ve relied on luck to keep me alive. But I’m in sniper’s alley right now and I have to work at dodging the bullets."
