Jeremy Clarkson sparks anger over sarcastic heatwave comment

Jeremy Clarkson has caused outrage after his sarcastic remark about the severe weather warning conditons amid the heatweave in the UK.

The 62-year-old appeared to suggest the warnings weren’t necessary as he compared how the South of France was dealing with the same temperatures on Twitter on Sunday.

He wrote: “It’s very hot in the south of France but so far as I know, there’s no DefCon 8 level 3 killer death heatwave warning in place.”

Among the angry comments, one fan said the UK isn’t well-equipped for such hot conditions.

To that, the TV star replied: “Go sit under a tree then.”

Many people pointed out some areas of France were on high alert as record temperatures approached.

France has evacuated 16,000 people in the south-western Gironde region due to wildfires caused by extreme heat.

Others said: “France is literally on fire Jeremy.”

“France is literally burning to the ground with 16,000 already evacuated. 1,000 people have died in Spain & Portugal in recent days.”

“Jeremy Clarkson is a dangerous, ignorant fool.”

However, some other fans agreed with the former Top Gear host. One wrote: “They complain about British weather but when there’s a bit of sun for a week [they] start crying. Grab carling out fridge, bbq out, footy on, simple as.”

Others added: “Clarkson nails it.”

“I love how the weather that we get for six months per year in Florida is worthy of a national emergency in Europe.”

Spain had to evacuate thousands of people in recent days due to fires breaking out across the southern region of Mijas, as well as Malaga.

Clarkson’s comments come as London had its hottest day of the year on Monday and it has been warned temperatures could rise up to 40C.

The UK will remain in high tempertures for the rest of the week.

A level four heat-health alert has been put in place as a result by the UK Health Security Agency.

The Met Office has issued the UK’s first red extreme heat warning until Wednesday.
